Kinnon LaRose’s path to becoming a Thoroughbred trainer was anything but traditional. A former college basketball captain, LaRose has turned the discipline, leadership, and work ethic developed on the court into a growing career in horse racing.

A graduate of Sacred Heart University with degrees in sport management and strategic communication, LaRose initially wasn’t sure what came next after college. While watching racing during the COVID-19 period, he decided to take a chance and sent veteran trainer Tom Amoss an email.

Amoss called the next morning.

That opportunity led LaRose to Keeneland, where he began as a hot walker and worked his way through the ranks, from groom to shedrow foreman to assistant trainer, before taking over Amoss’ stable.

Today, LaRose oversees a large racing operation while building his own identity as a trainer. With approximately 65 horses in training and a team supporting operations in Kentucky, LaRose is embracing the opportunity to build the next chapter of his career.

His story is a powerful reminder that success isn't always about following a traditional path. Sometimes, it starts with taking a chance, sending an email, and being willing to do the work.
