From the Hardwood to the Backstretch

Kinnon LaRose’s path to Thoroughbred training began on the basketball court.

​

A collegiate athlete and former captain at Sacred Heart University, Kinnon earned degrees in sport management and strategic communication and public relations. His years as an athlete shaped the philosophy he brings to racing today: preparation, accountability, teamwork and, above all, understanding the individual athlete.

​

In 2020, Kinnon took a chance on a career in racing, reaching out to trainer and analyst Tom Amoss. That opportunity led him to Keeneland and a six-year apprenticeship learning the business from the ground up; from hot walker and groom to foreman, assistant, and head assistant trainer.

​

Tom Amoss became not only Kinnon’s employer, but his mentor. When Amoss stepped away from day-to-day training in 2026, he entrusted Kinnon with the stable they had built together. Amoss continues to serve as a bloodstock and racing advisor, providing experience and continuity as Kinnon builds the next chapter.

Training the Athlete, Not Just the Horse

Kinnon believes great performance is built long before race day.

​

His program is centered on preparation, communication, individualized development, and trust. Every horse is different, and understanding what each athlete needs to thrive is at the heart of his approach.

His first season as a trainer has already brought significant milestones, including his first Saratoga victory and his first graded stakes win with Stress Relief in the Grade 3 Adirondack.

But the goal extends beyond the winner’s circle.

Kinnon is building a program where horses are known individually, owners are true partners, and success is measured by development, relationships and long-term opportunity.

Kinnon is equally committed to the future of the Thoroughbred industry. Through his involvement with Amplify, he works to introduce the next generation to racing and create pathways into the many careers the industry offers.
